Welcome to the catfishbase !

This site collects and presents all the facts under which we succeed in spawning and raising the catfishes under tank conditions. Furthermore this site offers a  magnificent possibility to run and control your own statistics on your tanks, spawns, breeding groups, when you obtained which animals and a lot more.

With this collection of data we will be able to evaluate the best times of the year to breed certain species, to compare own data with those of other breeders (sizes and number of spawns, under which tankconditions are the biggest spawns registered (temperature, conductivity etc), which catfishes are commonly bred, and also just for curiosity - what is everybody else obtaining or spawning :) We have often experienced under special weather conditions, that the spawning statistics are exploding.

Another benefit.... you are able to find fellow breeders of more rare catfishes - or just fellow breeders for exchanging animals to freshen up the gene pool.

New catfish owners can search all breeders in the region, and the breeders have the facility to offer their breedings for sale. Those not interested in getting a lot of personal messages regarding some rare breedings have the posibility to remain anonymous.

In near future we look forward to present the data graphically and run more complicated statistics. This does however require a lot of data to be representative.

Soon to come will be personal breeder's profile, where you can present your fishroom, where you and naturally guests can see your population and spawning statistic etc.

Catfishbase.com is not alone....  - not at all :) We are extremely proud to tell, that one year ago we launched a sister site in german language: www.welse.ch.

Both sites share the same database - so now we can compare and benefit from fellow breeders worldwide - without language barriers !!!

Naturally we had to handle some challenges - as to our different unit systems: imperial and SI systems (Inch/cm, Fahrenheit/Celsius etc). And we made it. Our database automatically calculates and presents all data in the unit system you have selected under "profile settings" ! 

Some things are still to come. As for example "users online" totally for both sites - and in future the posibility to switch between the sites.

We hope very much that you will enjoy and benefit from this site. Catfishbase expands and grows with every input. The whole catfishworld is waiting for exactly your input. Together we build up the database.
